Following the death of Franzjosef Pensel, his literary estate now provides the first comprehensive insight into the history of the Handschriftenarchiv (manuscript archive) at the Academy of Sciences of the GDR. In addition to a brief biography of Pensel, which illustrates the scientific and political transformations at the Academy, the article focuses on the contents of his literary estate, which has now been fully made accessible for further research.
