Abstract

This paper shows a part of results on the current status and proposed solutions to improve the capacity of human resource in use management of medical devices in public general hospital, under “Research on the current status of use management of medical devices in public general hospitals at all levels”. Data were collected through reports of hospitals, interviewing staffs by questionnaire, group discussions and in-depth interviews with leaders and related staffs in 12 hospitals at all levels. Results show that: (1) All hospitals have established a Department/Unit of Medical Device Management and have at least 01 full-time staff, but the task assignments are overlap; (2) The number and qualifications of human resource are also inadequate, due to the lack of regulations and guidance, as well as the difficulties in recruitment; (3) Knowledge of staff in Department/Unit of Medical Device Management still has many gaps, but they are less likely to participate in continuing training courses and building the capacity. Therefore, in the coming time, it is necessary to have detailed regulations on the organizational structure, functions, tasks, and professional standards for staffs of use management of medical devices in hospitals, and to increase the training and additional knowledge and skills for this target group.
