Abstract

Abstract The purpose of the article is to present the current situation in the road transport of goods in the European Union and the directions of changes in this area. Firstly, theoretical issues related to freight transport have been introduced, with particular emphasis on the needs which generate the demand for the provision of such services. Afterwards, European statistics have been presented. These statistics demonstrate the changes which are taking place in the road transport of goods. The transport policy of the European Union has been described in next section of the article. Particular attention has been paid to the presentation of European Union projects which allow for limiting the negative impact of freight transport on the environment in the cities.
