Abstract

The article focuses on efforts by Cuba to eliminate mother-to-child transmission of congenital syphilis (CS). It states Cuba's public health program for preventing and controlling syphilis has existed since 1972 and reduced the incidence of CS to under 0.5 cases for every 1,000 live births. It mentions the Cuban Ministry of Public Health seeks to expand and strengthen free access to medical and reproductive services to prevent sexually transmitted infections and HIV and promote health behaviors.
