Abstract

Using 293 K diffractometer intensity data the structure of NaTeF 5 has been determined by single crystal X-ray technique and refined to a final R W of 0.028. The colorless crystals are orthorhombic (space group Pnma) with a=10.1610(6), b=5.9187(5), c=7.1885(4) A ̊ and Z=4. The structure contains ψ-octahedral TeF 5 − anions with approximate point symmetry 4mm. A previously published powder diagram [J.P. Bastide et al., Mat. Res. Bull. 19 ,7 (1984)] is re-indexed using correct cell parameters from the single crystal work.
