Abstract

ABSTRACT Libraries have evolved tremendously to become twenty-four-hour-a-day, seven-day-a-week, multimedia learning environments. For those challenged to secure such facilities, the change is equally dramatic. What once was an exercise in basic asset protection has progressed into one of property management, asset management, and access control. The security of today's libraries involves looking at facilities and users in a whole new light and with a whole new mindset. It takes a mindset that can focus on a clearly defined set of goals involving an approach that is open to new and available technologies and the processes by which to procure and utilize them effectively. The results of such a mindset are greater security, greater efficiency, and a better overall approach.
