Abstract
Compassion fatigue (CF) undermines teachers’ well-being and professional engagement. Previous studies, relying on latent variable theory, overlooked the group heterogeneity and the complexity of CF symptoms. To address this knowledge gap, the latent profile analysis (LPA) and network analysis (NA) were employed to identify the potential profile and the core symptoms for each potential profile. A national sample of 3816 teachers completed the Chinese version’s Professional Quality of Life Scale to gauge their CF. The results of the LPA revealed that teachers could stratify into three subgroups with low, moderate, and high CF profiles. The results of NA indicated that ‘I am the person I always wanted to be’ holds a central symptom in the three networks. Moreover, each network exhibited distinctive core symptoms and interconnections between symptoms. Identifying core symptoms across CF levels can offer tailored interventions for teachers with varying CF severity.
