Abstract

The construction of wave functions for Li 6 is carried out by an extension of methods previously developed for triton and the alpha particle. Cartesian tensors are used throughout, and the cartesian analogues of vector coupling coefficients are defined. Spin (and isobaric spin) functions are obtained in terms of spin (and isobaric spin) tensors, and their behaviour under permutations is exhibited. Orbital angular momentum functions are obtained in terms of “simple” cartesian space tensors, and these are coupled with the spin-charge functions to produce eigenfunctions of total angular momentum. The behaviour of these total angular momentum eigenfunctions under permutations is obtained by the use of coupling coefficients for the symmetric group; they are then combined with scalar (space) functions of adjoint symmetry to produce totally antisymmetric functions.
