Bogen reported offering a free beer to any of his classmates who would contribute a written definition ". . . of the word 'functional' as used in the expression 'a functional disease' or a 'functional disorder.'" His reason for the offer and the results are illuminating indeed.It seems that in class one day a professor used the term "functional disease." In all innocence, Bogen asked what the term meant.
