Abstract

The use of polyhydric phenols as colorimetric reagents for molybdenum is reviewed. It is shown that any polyhydric phenol having two ortho hydroxyl groups can be used with equal success. The use of gallic acid or sodium 2,3-dihydroxynaphthalene-6-sulphonate has been discussed in greater detail. The practical sensitivity for molybdenum is about 0.1 μg ml at 400 mμ.
