Abstract

SummaryFilms obtained by the passivation of zinc in Chromate and dichromate solutions have been examined in the electron microscope. Corrosion tests have been made. The most protective films were obtained from acidified dichromate solutions; they consisted of mixtures of chromium oxide and zinc Chromate between 1200Å and 1400Å thick. The formation of surface layers on zinc formed under a variety of passivating conditions is discussed.
