Abstract

The conditions of growing high-purity tungsten tube crystals have been studied by the method of electron-beam zone melting. The process of liquid metal tube shaping is shown to be stable. The structure of tube crystals is sufficiently perfect, the maximum misorientation of subgrains does not exceed 1°–2°. The relations between the dimensions of the initial tube, the crystal and the height of the meniscus have been found by solving the Laplace equation for a liquid meniscus in a thin film approximation and constancy of the growth angle. The latter has been estimated in the framework of the adopted approximation with the use of experimental data.
