Abstract
In this article the effect of using nano reactants in the properties of W–ZrC composite fabricated by hot-press and reaction sintering has been evaluated. At first the W and ZrC powders were hot-pressed to produce W/ZrC composite and then the WC/ZrO2 and the WC/ZrSiO4 mixture were reaction sintered. The starting powders were selected in nano size to see the difference. In the case of using nano reactants the amount of unreacted and unwanted phases reduced and the reaction progressed better. Also the evaluated properties including density, hardness and modulus of elasticity are better in W/ZrC composite made by nano reactants.
