Abstract

The High Luminosity upgrade of the LHC (HL-LHC) will require a significant upgrade of the detectors used in the experiments, in particular for the trackers. The current ATLAS Inner Detector will be replaced with an all-silicon tracker consisting of a pixel and a strip subsystem. The design and conception are now complete and the construction of the detector is starting. The paper reviews the expected performance of the new tracker and the process of construction.
