Abstract

ABSTRACT The Artifacts of Culture Change (ACC) was funded by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) in 2006 as an implementation tool to support person-directed living in nursing homes; however, the original tool was never validated. The aim of this study was to develop and qualitatively validate a revised Artifacts of Culture Change 2.0 version. First, a qualitative method using semi-structured interviews of national experts and users of the original tool garnered suggestions for revisions, followed by a pilot-testing process with six organizations across the long-term care continuum to validate respondents’ understanding of terminology and concepts and to examine the process of completing the tool. Interpretation of certain items of the ACC 2.0 did vary resulting in clarifying revisions to the tool. The process also resulted in an additional version of the tool – the Artifacts of Culture Change for Assisted Living.
