Abstract

The roman arch of Galerius stands in the centre of the city of Salonica and suffers from the heavy industrial and urban pollution in the area. Marble deterioration and formation of black crust are the main problems for the sculptures. The intervention on the surface includes cleaning and consolidation. The methodology and the materials used are reported in this paper.
