Abstract
Mass spectrometry is a highly complicated and the-state-of-the-art technology, which has been successfully used to many areas as a powerful analytical tool. In recent years, an increasing application of mass spectrometry in clinical laboratory can be observed. Due to its high sensitivity, specificity, and multicomponent analysis capacity, mass spectrometry has strong ability to analysis biomarkers existing in complex matrices, thus it can offer much more acute and reliable results for patient care. This article will base on the characteristics of mass spectrometry, giving a whole picture of the development and main applications of mass spectrometry in clinical laboratory. The problems and challenges that the technology is facing and the future trend of application will be mentioned. Key words: Mass spectrometry; Sensitivity; Specificity; Clinical laboratory; Application
