Abstract

A bending analysis of an orthotropic ellipsoidal shell on an elastic foundation is presented. Equations for orthotropic shells of revolution yielded by an asymptotic approach are applied to the specific geometry of an ellipsoidal shell to obtain the desired equations. Numerical results are obtained for an ellipsoidal shell made of epoxy resin for the clamped edge condition by superimposing the displacements and rotations caused by uniform pressure and edge loads. This solution is applicable only to the shells of limited small ellipticity.
