Abstract
This book is written to provide basic information about allergy and to answer the many questions of lay people who have contact with allergic children, rather than for physicians themselves. With this purpose in mind, Kjell Aas, Director of Pediatric Allergy in the University of Oslo, Norway, has compiled in an easy-to-read fashion 31 chapters covering the whole gamut of allergic disorders in children. In addition, there is a fairly comprehensive definition of terms in simple language to aid the reader unfamiliar with medical nomenclature. Lizann Disch has succeeded in translating the Norwegian into current American idiom, but references to "spittle" and "Quincke's edema" remind the reader of the original source of material. The very first chapter, pointedly titled, "Please, Doctor, May We Have a Dog?" sets a high standard, which unfortunately is not equalled by many of the succeeding chapters.
