Abstract

The photoabsorption cross section of cadmium has been determined in the range 40-250 eV using a heat-pipe absorption cell and a synchrotron light source. The results are compared with previous experiments at low energies and with a single-electron calculation. A more recent calculation using many-body perturbation theory is in considerably better agreement with experiment.
