Abstract

R. John Collier of Harvard University has resigned as Associate Editor of Protein Science to pursue other ventures. John has been a superb editor, voice of calm and good sense, and source of sage advice to this Editor. He has served the journal since mid-1995. I am most grateful to him for all the hard work and dedication he has given Protein Science in his years as Associate Editor, and especially for the help and advice he gave me during the time while I was learning the role of Editor. Our very best wishes for success in the new aspects of your professional life, John! Too often the people who staff Editors' offices don't get any recognition beyond receiving phone calls from authors who feel their manuscripts aren't receiving timely attention, but let me personally thank John's assistant, Scott Gilbert, for his excellent work in keeping track of all the things that flow through an Editor's office and for the fine interaction he has had with Jo Crain in my office. Scott has been especially generous in assisting with the transition to Stephen Bryant's office for which we are all most grateful. Prof. Collier has been succeeded as Associate Editor by Dr. Stephen H. Bryant of the National Center for Biotechnology Information of the National Library of Medicine, NIH. Welcome, Steve!
