Abstract
BACKGROUND: The Standard Precaution Observation Tool measures standard precaution (SP) indications and actions, including hand hygiene, linen management, and use of sharps and personal protective equipment. In a 2015 pilot study observers were trained using vignettes as well as in-hospital training to conduct observations in five hospitals. The purpose of this study is to: (1) evaluate use of vignettes and observational tool as an educational measure of SP knowledge and (2) examine the relationship between knowledge and adherence.
