Abstract

For the regeneration of an industrial pickling bath solution by a solvent extraction process different extractants were investigated for their capability to extract Al. The two main components of the pickling bath solution are phosphoric and hydrofluoric acid. This work describes the results of shake experiments with different p- tert-butyl-calix[4]arenes. Their capabilities to extract Al were compared with the results of Alamine 308 and another basic extractant, tetrabutyl-phosphonium-bromide (TBP-Br), that is [(C 4H 7) 4P] +Br −. Due to the low pH and the strong complexation of Al by fluoride ions in the pickling bath solution, no significant extraction was found for all the tested calixarenes.
