Abstract
Instantaneous trip molded-case circuit breakers have been widely used in petrochemical facilities for low-voltage motor protection. If not properly applied, false tripping on motor starting and contact welding of contactors may occur. Moreover, changes in the National Electrical Code have impacted equipment selection and protection. This paper discusses the testing, operation, and application of instantaneous trip molded-case circuit breakers used in combination motor starters.
