Abstract

The city of Julio de Castilhos underwent significant changes in its rural areas in recent decades. It was due to retraction of latifundia, area of extensive livestock farming in favor of modern agriculture of soybeans. The farms’ partial fragmentations of livestock and its restructuring occurred through three main forms: the lease, sale of property and the expropriation of unproductive land held by Instituto Nacional de Colonizacao e Reforma Agraria INCRA, because they were not performing its social function. The rural settlements enabled the introduction and development of family farming in the city and therefore the diversification of agricultural production. The objective of this research is to understanding the processes responsible for the dynamics of rural areas of the city and the conflicts arising in the period 1960 to 2007, examining the processing production, land and socioeconomic responsible for training of rural ISSN 1981-9021 Geo UERJ Ano 11, v.3, n.20, 2o semestre de 2009. p. 128-148. www.geouerj.uerj.br/ojs areas.
