Abstract

Modernism brought about various psychological side effects on people such as stress, depression, and loss of meaning in life. Seniors, handicapped people and patients are forced in physical, mental and especially in the spiritual sense. People find meaning in mystic beliefs such as Eastern mysticism (e.g. Yoga). Islamic mysticism as in the case of Sufism is also recognised as a tool to heal psychological problems. Sufism provide its followers with meaning and purpose in life which creates a therapeutic impact on people. Therapeutic recreation emerges as an important alternative to satisfy physical, sociological and psychological needs. This study provides a conceptual analysis of the therapeutic effect of Sufism.
