Abstract

A comprehensive study of a new TeO 2–BaO–SrO–Nb 2O 5 glass system is reported in this paper. Compositional dependence of glass transition ( T g) and crystallization ( T x ) temperatures are presented for all the compositions under study. The glass stability is discussed based on two parameters Δ T ( T x − T g) and K gl (Hruby parameter). This glass system is found to have a high thermal stability among tellurite glasses. The non-linear optical susceptibility χ (3) of these glasses was predicted based on the refractive index and linear optical polarizability. The optical properties, viz., optical energy band gap and Urbach energy were determined based on the optical absorption spectra. The Raman spectrum of a typical glass was also analyzed. All the above studies predicted that this glass system could be a potential candidate for fiber device applications.
