Abstract

The angular dependence of the three components T 20, T 21 and T 22 of the tensor polarization of deuterons from Si(d, d)Si elastic scattering have been measured. The energy of the projectiles was 7 MeV, and the scattering angles were between 15° and 90° (lab) in steps of 7.5°. The experimental data were analysed using the optical model without and with the inclusion of the Hauser-Feshbach correction. The addition of small, attractive and long-ranged tensor interaction T R to the central and spin-orbit forces was found necessary to account for the observed features of the tensor polarization.
