Abstract

The pressure (0 to 5 kbar) and temperature (-150 to +60 degrees C) dependence of dielectric (permittivity, dielectric loss tangent and phase transition temperatures) and dilatometric properties of ceramic Pb(Co1/2W1/2)O3 were measured. The effect of pressure on the phase transitions was remarkable. Since the pressure favours the smaller volume, phase II1 (the phase between phase transition temperatures Tc1 of - 12 degrees C and Tc2 of 32 degrees C with increasing temperature at atmospheric pressure) becomes more stable with increasing pressure. The dielectric properties associated with the paraelectric-antiferroelectric phase transition was fairly explained in terms of a phenomenological theory.
