Abstract

The feasibility of reliable, reproducible polarography in anhydrous HF is demonstrated. Simple techniques are described for fabrication by electrical discharge of a DME from Teflon or Kel-F and details of the assembly of the DME, the reference electrode and the auxiliary electrode in a suitable Kel-F cell are given. Drop characteristics of the DME and the effect of impurities on the useable potential range of the solvent in aqueous and anhydrous hydrogen fluoride media are critically examined. Some preliminary polarographic investigations are reported.
