Abstract
In this article Joseph Cambone presents a portrait of teaching as an act of love. Here we meet"Anne," a teacher at a residential and day school for approximately fifty boys with severe emotional and behavioral problems, as she reflects on her classroom practice while reviewing videotapes Cambone has made of her class sessions. This portrait, in part a conversation between teacher and researcher, reveals Anne's process of personal growth and professional development in her relationships with her students. This account vividly describes the kinds of difficulties and dilemmas Anne faces in her classroom daily, and shows that it is possible to tip the balance in favor of children in schools.
