Abstract

Perceptual models of positive symptoms in schizophrenia include hyper-excitability of auditory/verbal perceptual systems (in left temporoparietal junction; l-TPJ), and hypo-excitability of cognitive control which normally inhibits or reattributes perceptual misrepresentations (in right ventrolateral prefrontal cortex; r-VLPFC). Inhibitory stimulation of l-TPJ has been shown to reduce positive symptoms of schizophrenia, but r-VLPFC has not been targeted previously.
