Abstract

Various conditions, including carcinoma of the breast and inflammatory mastitis, may show increased and often asymmetric activity in the breast on bone scans. The authors present a previously unpublished cause of diffuse uptake of Tc-99m MDP in the breast in a patient with primary malignant breast lymphoma. There was no history of surgical intervention, chemotherapy, or radiation to the breast. Although an infrequent cause of breast mass or enlargement, lymphoma should be considered in patients with increased, asymmetric breast uptake seen on bone scans.
