Abstract

There are lessons to be learned from the widespread media coverage of assaults that have occurred after an individual play or competition had ended. The incidents involved athletes physically confronting members of the opposing team, or obnoxious spectators who charged the field or who retaliated by charging the stands. While the circumstances have varied, the outcomes of these types of confrontations serve as an increasingly significant reminder from a liability perspective.
