Abstract

Due to high energy and power density, Lithium-ion batteries (LIB) are the most widely used power source for portable electronic devices and electric vehicles. However, performance of LIB is limited by its operating temperature, calendar life and cycling stability. One of the biggest challengers for LIB in electric vehicles is poor performance at low temperatures. At low temperatures, increase in interfacial resistance results in delivering a low capacity and reducing the fast charging capability. Addition of electrolyte additives in electrolyte formulation is one of the best ways to enhance the performance of LIB at low temperatures. In this study, a systematic investigation of electrolyte formulations with a combination of additives, has been studied to improve the low temperature (25°C to -10°C) performance of Graphite /LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2 coin cells.
