Abstract

An improved synthetic wavelength self-mixing interferometer has been studied in this paper to measure displacement. In the new interferometer system, two lasers are placed on both sides of a vibrating object and simultaneously generate two self-mixing interference signals, which synthetized into a signal of shorter wavelength with an increased resolution up to 125 nm. The experiment results demonstrated that, under weak or even moderate feedback regime, the experimental distances are within the range of 0.1 to 0.5 m, and the maximum relative error does not exceed 10%.
