Abstract

Isostructural series of mixed-ligand lanthanoid complexes (La — Lu, Y) were crystallized from aqueous solutions containing trans-1,4-dithiane-1,4-dioxide (TDTD) and trifluoromethanesulfonate (TFMS). X-ray study of the Nd complex showed it to be triclinic ( P 1 ̄ ) with a = 12.376(3), b = 12.370(2), c = 13.340(3) A ̊ , α = 89.97(2), β = 90.42(2), γ = 90.90(2)°, and Z = 2. Structure determination indicated that the structure of the complex is [Nd(TDTD) 2(TFMS)(H 2O) 3] · 2TDTD·2TFMS. The Nd 3+ ion is eight-coordinated by four oxygens from the TDTD molecules, by one oxygen from the TFMS ion, and by three water oxygens. The Nd-O bond range is 2.407(8)–2.525(8) Å. One of the non-coordinated TFMS groups is distorted. IR, optical absorption, and fluorescence spectra were also recorded and are discussed.
