Abstract

The new compound [Mn(salpn)N 3] has been synthesized and structurely characterized, where H 2salpn is N, Nt'-bis(salicylidene)-1,-3- diaminopropane. The compound crystallizes in the orthorhombic system, space group Pna2 1 (No. 33), with formula weight 377.3, a = 11.941(1), b = 11.840(1), c = 11.223(1) A ̊ , V = 1586.7(8) A 1, Z = 8, R = 0.029 . It features an azide-bridged Mn(III) chain complex with a distored octahedron around each metal atom. Magnetic measurements in the temperature range of 20–300 K suggest an intrachain antiferromagnetic interaction.
