Abstract

The pure ZnO, pure MgO NPs and ZnO/MgO (1:1) nanocomposite were synthesized by solution combustion method by using Oxalyl dihydrazide (ODH) as fuel. The synthesized samples were characterized by XRD, FTIR, UV-DRS, SEM and EIS. The SEM analysis revealed that the presence of porous and foamy cave like structures in ZnO/MgO (1:1) nanocomposite suitable for efficient photocatalysis. The Optical studies showed that increased band gap from 3.328 to 3.598 eV for pure ZnO and ZnO/MgO (1:1) nanocomposite respectively. The photocatalytic studies towards decolorization of IC dye under UV light by using ZnO/MgO (1:1) nanocomposite showed 78% of decolorization efficiency for irradiation time of about 90 minutes. The reason for enhancement attributed to increase in the separation of the photo induced electron hole pairs. Therefore ZnO/MgO (1:1) nanocomposite can be exercised as prospective photocatalyst.
