Abstract

A new method for the synthesis of orthogonally protected enantiopure a,a'-diaminodicarboxylic acids is described. A key step involves the Julia olefination of an aldehyde and a sulfone, both of which are derived from an optically pure dicarboxylic amino acid such as aspartic and glutamic acid. Straightforward synthesis of orthogonally protected 2,9-diaminodecanedioic acid is chosen to demonstrate the conciseness of this new versatile approach.
