Abstract

We have synthesized hydroxyapatite (HA) in the presence of hydroxyethylidenediphosphonic acid and Mg2+ ions and examined the influence of the nature and concentration of the crystallization inhibitors and the concentration of starting reagents on the physicochemical characteristics of HA. It has been shown that the crystal structure and texture of HA can be controlled by varying synthesis conditions in the presence of low concentrations (0.01–1.00 mol %) of crystallization inhibitors, which can be used in the fabrication of materials with improved performance for various functional applications.
