Abstract

AbstractReaction of linear poly(iminoethylene) with carbon disulfide in the presence of sodium hydroxide gives a product in which every NH group is replaced by NCS⊖Na⊕. In the absence of sodium hydroxide about one NH group in two is replaced by NCS2H and there is a random distribution of such groups. Evidence for these reactions was obtained from 13C NMR spectra, which were interpreted on the basis of the chemical shifts of dithiocarbamates derived from three model diamines.
