Abstract

Herein, the preparation of pH-sensitive core-shell hybrid nanoparticles is reported. The core, prepared by emulsion polymerization, consisted of a copolymer of polyvinylimidazole (PVIm) and 3-(trimethoxysilyl) propylmethacrylate (TMSPMA). The silica shell, obtained by sol-gel synthesis, was anchored to the core at the TMSPMA moiety via silane linking. The pH response and the size of the nanoparticles were tuned by adjusting the quantity of VIm. The shell in the particles helps to decrease the drug release around tumoral pH (6.5–7.2).
