Abstract
Bismuth oxyiodide/kaolinite (BiOI/kaolinite) composite material with enhanced photocatalytic activity for Rhodamine B (RhB) degradation was synthesized by a simple hydrothermal method. The crystal structure, chemical composition, microstructure, morphology and photoelectrochemical property of the as-prepared samples were characterized. The BiOI/kaolinite composites with different contents of kaolinite (w = 20%, 30%, and 40%) were successfully obtained. The results indicated that the BiOI/kaolinite-30% composite display the best catalytic activity for RhB degradation under visible light irradiation, which can be ascribed to the more robust adsorption capacity and higher charge separation efficiency. In addition, the main active specie during the photocatalytic reaction is h+. All of these results prove the BiOI/kaolinite composite to be a promising visible light photocatalytic candidate among the family of kaolinite materials.
