Abstract

In this work, a new kind of green functional bentonite (Bent) was synthesized by modifying Bent with poly(2-(acryloyloxy)ethyl) trimethylammonium chloride (PDAC) in a simple way. Bent-PDAC was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Results showed that PDAC was successfully grafted on the surface and interlayer of Bent. The as-prepared Bent-PDAC has the better adsorption capacity for anionic dye AB10B from aqueous solution. The adsorption of AB10B was examined by batch sorption experiments with respect to pH, initial concentration, temperature, and contact time. Results showed that the adsorption of Amido black 10B (AB10B) by Bent-PDAC fitted well with the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and Langmuir isotherm. The novel Bent-PDAC adsorbent exhibited great performance (399.47 mg/g) for the removal of AB10B under the optimum adsorption conditions. Bent-PDAC could be applied as an ideal adsorbent for removal of anionic dyes in water.
