Abstract

A method for radically improving the properties of hard alloy has been developed via introducing nanoparticles of tungsten carbide to it in order to adapt this approach for industrial applications. Unlike the previously reported method, plasma powder agglomerates of tungsten carbide nanoparticles are mixed with raw hard alloy powder by ball milling. The cutting inserts from the resulting solid alloy demonstrate significantly low wear in tests.
