Abstract

New poly bis(thiourea) silver(I) nitrate (tuAgN) has been synthesized at room temperature (27°C) and single crystals were grown by the slow evaporation method. Crystal structure was solved and the lattice parameters were obtained. The crystal shows good optical transparency (70%) in the entire visible region with a lower cut off wavelength of 329nm. The tuAgN crystal has high laser damage threshold value of 13.06GW/cm2 with better birefringence results. The tuAgN crystal exhibits good thermal stability of about 165°C. The Vickers microhardness measurements carried out on (100) and (010) planes of the grown crystal shows considerable anisotropy.
