Abstract

The first crystallographically characterized 2-mercaptopyridine N-oxide (HPT) complex of samarium was obtained by the reaction of Sm(OAc)3 with NaPT in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). The 2-mercaptopyridine N-oxide ligand generates an eight-coordinate complex, Sm(PT)3(DMSO)2, in which the solvent molecules, DMSO, take part in coordination to Sm. The Sm atom has a distorted dodecahedron with the Sm-S and Sm-O bond distances of 2.878(2)-2.916(2) and 2.359(5)-2.440(4) A, respectively. Copyright © 1996 Elsevier Science Ltd
