Abstract

AbstractComb‐like surfactant of polymethyl methacrylate‐g‐methoxy polyethylene glycol (PMMA‐g‐MPEG) with well‐defined structure was synthesized and characterized by FT‐IR, 1H NMR and gel permeation chromatography. Its surface activity and aggregation behavior in aqueous solution were investigated by surface tension measurement, dye encapsulation experiment, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and dynamic light scattering (DLS). The CMC and surface tension at the CMC of PMMA‐g‐MPEG were 0.2 g/L and 47 mN/m, respectively. DLS and TEM analysis revealed that PMMA‐g‐MPEG could self‐assemble into spherical micelles with the average hydrodynamic diameters in the range from 20 to 300 nm in aqueous solution.
