Abstract
Abstract 2-Phenyl-1,3,2-dioxaborinane derivatives with a chiral alkyloxy group have been synthesized. They form chiral smectic C phases at ambient temperature and exhibit ferroelectric properties. The derivatives are the first examples of ferroelectric liquid crystalline materials constructed by only one aromatic ring.
